Course Outline:

Session 1

(Day 1)

TRNSYS Introduction and Concepts Part 1 (presentation)
This session covers basic concepts, input data, working with simulation results and an overview of peripheral TRNSYS tools.

Developing a First Project (demonstration)
Students will be shown how to assemble and run a first TRNSYS system simulation. This session will focus on gaining familiarity with the graphical interface, the TRNSYS Simulation Studio, and the fundamental concepts of creating TRNSYS simulations.

Students will have the opportunity to ask specific questions.


Session 2

(Day 2)

TRNSYS Systems Simulation (demonstration)
We will continue to use the graphical interface, the TRNSYS Simulation Studio, to develop more robust simulations. The attendees will learn how to drive simulations and extract the information that they need for analysis. Simulations will develop more detail and complexity as the attendees will learn how to correctly assemble and debug their TRNSYS simulations.

Session 3

(Day 3)

Simulating Buildings in TRNSYS (presentation)
This session covers concepts associated with simulation of multizone buildings in TRNSYS. Evolution of the building model, input data, rudimentary physics of the building model, tips for TRNSYS3D and analysis of results will be addressed.

Developing a TRNSYS3D Building Model (demonstration)
By using the TRNSYS3D plugin for Sketchup (TM), the attendees will create the building envelope and shading groups for their TRNSYS building.

Session 4

(Day 4)

Developing a Building Simulation (demonstration)
Information from the Simulating Buildings in TRNSYS presentation will be put into practice. Adding gains, lighting, infiltration, simulating the building in Energy Rate Control and also in Temperature Level Control will be addressed.
